Supplement Review
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:42:54 PM »
Guys time for a new and helpfull topic called supplement review. I have been contacting all the suppliers and brands over the last week and have obtained quite a few samples of various supplements. Samples include Australian and American brands and include protein samples and pre-post workout drinks. As they are only samples i will review each one and tell you what i think based on my criteria.
For protein samples i will base my criteria on
1) Taste
2) Mixability
3) Digestion
4) Star rating out of 5. 5 for best and 1 or none for worst.

Pre-workout drinks.
1) Taste
2) Mixabilty.
3) Digestion
4) Noticeable pump
5) Vascularity
6) Strength improvement
7) Endurance or lactic acid improvement
8) Recovery

Note-I will be doing comparisions on ingredients, to compare the quality of the proteins eg, WPC ratio and WPI ratio's if possible. On workout drinks i will include if any caffeine is in the product as well.

Any other products sent out will be reviewed as well. eg fat burners, rtd's, bars and cereals.
No i am not a scientist or lab rat but understand what i have to, i have over 15 years training and supplement experience and have used everything from Dessicated Liver to Vanadyl Sulphate so you will  get unbiased opinion's.

I have quite a few in the post and i will list what i have on hand.
1) Maxs Reload HGF WPI
2) Redbak WPI
3) Isatori Morph tabs
4) BSN NO-Xplode
In the mail i have coming.
1) Cytosport Monster Milk
2) Superior Supplements Distributors 1) Labrada Super Charge and others?
3) Nutrition Science sample's. Lance Jensen looks after these and has been very helpful with samples and diet advice.
4) Next Generation Megapro and others.
I still have others to hit up and i am trying to get a broad spectrum of brands.
One thing i wont do is brand bash or promote, it is what it is. If it tastes crap then its crap but doesnt mean all there products are crap. Same with mixability if it clumps it clumps. I have 3 different brand shakers and a cafe series blender. I hear guys all the time talk about the 4 or 5 kg bucket they have brought and cant get through 2 shakes for various reason's. I also would like to explore the whole nitric oxide/ beta-alanine debate. I have tried a few over the years and it's time to do some more. At the end of the day the supplement business is multi billion world wide and some BBer's spend more money than they spend on grocerys. What i will say is all persons or companys i have spoken with so far have been very helpfull.

I used to Azza, finished up a few weeks ago.  Not only would I get free samples, but I'd get free tubs of products from reps, as I was the main person selling sports supp's and they all wanted me to sell their stuff and tell my boss to buy more of their brand.  I have a stock pile of about 6 months worth of protein powder, a couple of tubs of pre-workout formula's, and a heap of little fat burner pill samples.

I can send you a packet of out of date Herbs Of Gold fat burners if you like.  It will be another 6 months before I use any fat burners, and I dont think they will last that long...

I'm going to the doctor next week and I will have all my test results. Good news, I had an utlrasound of my heart last week and after years of abuse I'm happy to report that it is beating like clockwork!!! (with no thickening of the internal parts or anything....

Been getting some good feedback from supplement companys and advice. Obviously you wont see serious gains from using samples 2-3 times. This is not designed to be a testers log or a product test. It is niether a cycle of any kind. No fat burners will be tested due to the fact no result's will be noticable. I have over the years used a lot of supplements at times and have trained for over 15 years. I have also done a fitlink course back in the nineties. My only grey area i consider is contest prep as i have never wanted to compete. I hope to compete in 2009 or 2010. The views expressed by me will be views not recomendations or damnations. There is obviously a lot to consider when expressing a view on a product and the whole topic is a first impression type of a test. If i was to conduct any longer product tests it would be at the expense of either me or a supplement company and would be a different topic.

I will start reviewing products Wednesday after training. I have had some positive feedback from supplement companys and supplement distributors. When i have the products in hand and these will be new on the market products plus some old favourites you may not have tried. Fortunately for us in OZ we have both Australian and American brands. While not all products are available to us we still get a wide variety of good supplements.
